Kitties For Kiddies

Feeding

When you bought your first cat, what was the other first thing you bought? For me, I think it was kitty food. Cats love a tasty can of sliced cat food with gravy over the top of some crunchy cat food. But which cat foods? Can I feed them any treats? How many? I'm going to try to answer these questions.

You should always pick cat food from a company known mostly for its cat food, like Fancy Feast or Friskies. You shouldn't buy any cat food from your market. Buy a high-quality food so that your cat gets the nutrition it needs. Dry cat foods should be in a bag without any rips or tears. Moist canned cat food should not be dented or sticky on the outside. Moist bagged food should not be in torn, ripped, or sticky packages.

Treats are optional. There are treats in bags, plastic containers, boxes, and more. There are treats flavored with fish, meat, berries, fruits, and vegetables. Most treats are not cheap and are nutritious and tasty for your cat. You should only feed your cat up to the recommended number of treats. Too many treats can be harmful.

Also, remember that all food must expire someday, and cat food is not an exception. Most canned foods expire in a year or two, but bagged ones expire sooner normally. Always check if there's an expiration date on the food. If not, make sure it's finished in less than a year, just in case it gets moldy or bugs get into it.

Also, proper storage is needed. Try not to put the food in extreme heat or cold, and opened cans should be put in a fridge. There are a few caps for putting over cans, but we always use the whole can, so I don't know much about them. Hmm, anything left out? Yes, remember to always only leave moist food out for only about an hour or so, or else it could get spoiled and make your kitty sick.
