Kitties For Kiddies

Care and Supplies

A cat is a bundle of love and fur that needs to be cared for. In return for care and love, a cat will be affectionate. It will cheer you up when you're sad and make you laugh. The more love you give, the more your cat will love you. You need to provide your cat with as much attention as you can. I will try to help you out along the way.

You will need cat food, food bowls, water bowls, cat beds, toys, a litter box, litter, things for grooming, other things, patience, and love.

For food and water bowls, you should get stainles steel or ceramic bowls. You should not use plastic bowls because cats can scratch and bite it and bacteria can get in the scratches. You will pretty much never be able to thoroughly clean it. A food and water bowl stand is very good for cats (especially older cats, because it sometimes hurts their backs to bend over) as long as they can reach the food and water easily. You might want to get a mat to put underneath them for any spills. Also, mats can help people with cats that like to move food bowls around, it helps keeps food bowls from slipping.

You should have at least one cat bed for each of your cats. A cat bed can range from a half of a cardboard box and a blanket to a store-bought fluffy cat bed. Just make sure your cat can fit in it. If you buy or make a cat bed without anything soft, please, put a pillow, blanket, towel, or something similar in it, for your cat's sake.

You should get a collar and maybe an I.D. tag for if your cat gets lost. A cat that jingles with tags is better than a lost cat. Make sure the collar doesn't choke your cat and make sure it doesn't just fall off. You can check this by making sure it is tight if you stick two fingers, on top of each other, into the collar easily, but you can't stick anymore in. You will really need a collar and the I.D. tag if you let your cat outside.

If you plan to let your cat out, let it inside and outside. They need your company and care. You can let your cats outside when they are about 8 months old.

There are many dangers for cats allowed outdoors. These risks include traffic, dogs, humans, other cats, the risk of diseases from other cats or prey, poisoning, getting shut into someone's house or garage, and even the risk of your cat moving in with somone else.

Getting two kittens gives the owner twice as much fun. They play with and pounce on each other, and even do pretend fights. Even though two cats could need half the time for playing, they can be more than twice the trouble. Although they might knock several things off of many of your tables when they play, it is definitely worth it. However, it is your choice to get a cat, so don't let me pressure you to get two or more cats.
