Litter box

Probably the worst part of owning a cat that nobody ever wants to do will be explained here. The litter box. You will need to make sure you get a good litter. We use clumping litter, but you don't have to! There are clumping, clay, newspaper pellets, and more. Clumping litter is good because it covers up alot of the smell normally and it is easier to clean because, well, it clumps. Clay is just your average cheap litter, and newspaper pellets are safe for the environment and are usually cheap too.

Let's think outisde the box. (Get it? Sorry, bad pun)

There is the inexpensive basic plastic litterbox and then there's the large self-cleaning covered litter box. There are many litter boxes for you to use, but you have to pick one for the needs of your cat.

If your cat needs privacy, get a covered litter box. If your cat is big, get a bigger litter box. Some litter boxes are automatic. A lot of cats are scared of them, but our 10 inside-outside cats are fine with 2 Littermaid automatic litter boxes. Once we got them this other self cleaning litter box and they were staring at it like they were saying,"You want me to actually use that thing?". As soon as it started cleaning itself, they ran away like an evil dog was chasing after them. We returned it a few days later. Even though it may have made nice designs (the thing would look almost exactly like a zen garden). The cats couldn't care less.

As soon as you get home with a new cat, show the kitty the litter box. He/she will probably use it just because of being in a new area. If not, put it in the litter box every five minutes. You do not want a cat that grows up thinking that it can use the bathroom actually in the bathroom.

For indoor cats, empty out the litter box every day. If you let your cat outdoors, it will probably not use the litter not use the litter box as often, so you can clean it less often, about, every other day or when it is full.
